Our Services

Consultation

Consultation can be helpful when you want to have a conversation about yourself or your child to gather your thoughts and talk through potential next steps.  Consultation can be provided as a stand-alone service, or as a follow-up to comprehensive evaluation service.  Families often seek consultation to talk through parenting strategies, deepen their understanding of their child’s development, or to support communication with others.  Consultation is also available to educators and allied health professionals, either to talk through specific cases or to deepen understanding around broader topics of development and neurodiversity.

Testing

Comprehensive evaluations are designed to answer your unique questions about yourself or your child.  They include measures of intellectual, academic, neuropsychological, and psychological functioning, and can be tailored in response to specific questions or needs.  Results are integrated into a reader-friendly report that can be used to further understanding, advocate for services, and/or inform treatment.  A 90-minute feedback session is included, and follow-up with key stakeholders can be scheduled upon request.

Professional Development

Understanding Minds is available to lead professional training and workshops on a range of topics at the intersection of learning, mental health, and development. Dr. Backe’s sessions are designed to enhance participants’ existing levels of understanding, promote practical strategies, and foster professional growth.  She particularly enjoys working with schools, homeschooling groups, and pediatric health care providers to collaborate around strategies that can be used to identify needs and support young people engaged in those systems and settings.
